Water Activities For Fun In The Sun

We must admit; it feels like we have been waiting for the sunshine forever. Now that it is here, we couldn’t be more excited! Although the heat might be a welcome respite from the rainy spring, it has a new obstacle to tackle. Beating the heat. No worries, here at GetLocal.ie, we have curated this list of water activities to help you beat the heat while soaking up all the sun. These aquatic games can be played with the whole family so everyone can enjoy the fun.

Cup To Cup

For this water game, have everyone sit down in a line one behind the other. At the front of the line, place a bucket filled with water and an empty bucket at the back of the line. The last person in line should face the bucket with their back to the next person behind them. The person at the front of the line fills a cup with water from the bucket in the front and passes it over their head to the person behind them. The team must work together to fill the bucket in the back of the line without spilling all the water along the way.

Sponge Run

Lose the cup and grab a sponge for this water activity. Each participant gets two buckets, one filled with water and the other empty. Place one bucket on one end of the garden and the other on the opposite end. Each person must fill their sponge with water from the full bucket, carry it to the empty bucket, and wring it out. Whoever fills their empty bucket with water first wins!

Water Balloon Pinata

Despite the name, you are better off using regular latex balloons for this water game. Fill balloons up with water and hang them up over your garden. Give your players a bat or a stick and let them loose on the balloons. The first one to pop a balloon wins and gets drenched in the process! Win-win!

Back-To-Back Water Dash

For this water activity, you will want to use actual water balloons. Fill up your water balloons and have players pair off for their teams. They will be racing to the finish line, but with a catch, they must do it back to back with their arms linked with their partners with the water balloon between their backs. The first team to make it to the finish line without bursting their balloon wins!

Wet Musical Chairs

Everyone knows the classic musical chairs, place chairs in a circle, play some music, and when the music stops, everyone has to sit. You then take away a chair every round, and the last person sitting at the end of the game is the winner! Place water balloons on each chair before each round to make this a water game. That way, the players must choose between getting soaked or losing the game!

Frozen T-Shirt Race

This water game takes a little prep but is very fun. Grab a few shirts, soak them in water, and place them in the freezer overnight. You will want to place wax paper between each shirt so they do not freeze together. When you are ready to play, have all the participants try and put the shirts on, and the first to get their shirt on correctly wins!
