Biodynamic estate run by 5th generation Frederic Magnien who converted to partially ageing the wines in amphora in 2015. His wines are more expressive of terroir and are more energetic as a consequence. The estate while run Biodynamically for many years was certified with Demeter in 2015.
A creamy, juicy nose of plum and spice and just a suggestion of the typical Crozes ‘bacon fat’ character. Light-bodied, fresh acidity, savoury, with soft tannins. Sleekly textured, elegant and just delicious - an approachable style to be drunk young and on the fruit. Very good value for the appellation. The Crozes-Hermitage ‘Inspiration’ is made from the estate’s youngest vines (10-15 years old) grown on the ‘plateau de Chassis’, a terrace made up of thick layers of pebbles from different glacial periods, interspersed with red clay. The juice gets a four-day pre-fermentation soak, with 80% then aged for 12 months in stainless steel, the remainder in oak barrels. Very good value for the appelation.
DOMAINE DE LA VILLE ROUGE, Mercurol - OrganicCertified organic by Bureau Véritas and in conversion to biodynamic viticulture. This young estate, created in 2006 is situated 5km south of Tain l'Hermitage and extends to 18 hectares. Jocelyne, Edgar and Sébastien Girard work everything by hand and make a strict selection of the grapes, both in the vineyard and on the sorting table, working to maximum yields of 35 hl/ha. This attention to detail is evident in the wines.
