Freshening up your living or working space can be as easy as adding some plant life to your settings. It adds a breath of new life into your surroundings as well as a splash of colour to help brighten up your days. Plus, it gives you something you can nurture and take care of as it grows. At GetLocal.ie we have plenty of plants from local businesses across Ireland. No matter how many or few you decide to nurture for your home, here are 6 of our favourite indoor plants that we recommend.
Snake Plant
Snake plants not only provide a bit of ambience to your indoor space, but they are also very easy to take care of. Which we think is a brilliant place to start our list. They also have a number of health benefits. These benefits include;
- It helps filter indoor air.
- According to Feng Shui, it helps improve the “energy” of the space it inhabits.
- It can help remove toxic pollutants.
Don’t worry this plant doesn’t attract snakes as the name suggests, which wouldn’t be a huge deal if it did because there aren’t any snakes here in Ireland. It actually gets its name from the shape and sharp margins of its leaves. The best news of all? We have a grand selection of snake plants that can be picked up from your local shop
Aloe Vera Plant
Not only is Aloe Vera a beautiful green colour, which we happen to be a fan of here in the Emerald Isle, but it also holds very special uses for the owner of the plant. This beautiful plant purifies the air around it of formaldehyde and benzene, which are two chemicals commonly found in household cleaning products. Not to mention, it has healing properties and can help with soothing and healing minor burns and scrapes. How handy is that? Find your next Aloe Vera Plant here, you will thank us later.

Spider Plant
Spider plants are hard to kill, purify the air, are safe for pets, and increase the humidity in the area around them. These all sound like absolutely brilliant reasons to start your indoor plant space with this plant! They are commonly placed in hanging plant pots and it brightens up any space that you might want to place it in. This is grand if you are low on work-top, window, and floor space. Also, no need to worry, the name of this plant has nothing to do with real spiders, it actually just refers to the little plantlets or offshoots at the end of the long wiry stems that look “spidery”.
Monstera Deliciosa
Monstera Deliciosa is just fun to say you have to admit it! The name comes from Latin which means monster (Monstera) and delicious (Deliciosa), which refers to its fruit which can be eaten if fully ripened. The most important benefit of keeping this plant in your space? It is absolutely gorgeous and makes the space around it look instantly more attractive. As with the other plants on our list, it also has the ability to clean the air. It is important to note that the leaves and roots are toxic to both humans and animals so keep it up and out of the way if you have pets or children.
Ficus Elastica (Rubber Plant)
Despite the name, the Rubber Plant is not actually made of rubber so it does have some maintenance and upkeep to keep in mind. The name refers to the texture of the leaves, which in fact are quite rubbery like in feeling. The good news is that this plant is rather low in maintenance though and has a very striking look about it. It is a natural humidifier and is perfect for brightening up a windowsill or your desk in your office space.
