Grgich Hills Napa Valley Zinfandel Organic

Country: USA Region: Napa ValleyVarietal: Zinfandel Vintage: 2018Colour: Red Style: DryProducer: Grgich Hills Estate Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first gained international recognition at the celebrated “Paris Tasting” of 1976. Then, in a now-historic blind tasting, a panel of eminent French judges swirled, sniffed, and sipped an array of the fabled white Burgundies of France and a small sampling of upstart Chardonnays from the Napa Valley. When their scores were tallied, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, crafted by Mike Grgich, as the finest white wine in the world. Mon Dieu! The results stunned the international wine establishment and immediately earned Mike a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world. The estate’s Zinfandel is sourced from the warmest of their vineyards in Calistoga and is co-fermented with a small amount of Petite Sirah to add extra complexity. The wine is then aged in large French oak casks to avoid overwhelming the varietal character. The result is a powerful yet balanced Zinfandel with ample dark fruit character and subtle spicy hints from the oak. Tasting Notes:This elegant, fruity Zinfandel brims with inviting aromas of cherry, raspberry, and blackberry intermixed with hints of cranberry and blood orange. Graceful and soft on the front palate, the flavours of mixed red berries and the lively tannins add luscious texture throughout the mid-palate, balanced with perfectly integrated acidity. Its long finish reveals spicy undertones and a superb freshness that will allow it to age beautifully for many years. Food Matching: Rack of lamb, steak sandwiches, sausage pizza, or meat lasagna.
