A: This is the latest technology to examine the retina and produces a scan which allows your Optometrist to look not only at the retinal surface but at the layers of the retina beneath the surface. This allows for earlier detection and monitoring of conditions such as AMD (age related macular degeneration), Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular holes, Epiretinal membranes and other eye conditions. The OCT machine can also scan the cornea and anterior chamber of the eye. - Q: When should a child be seen for an eye exam?
A: Generally, a child should have their first eye exam at about age 3. If there is a family history of Strabismus (eye turns) or Amblyopia (lazy eye) or if there is a concern the examination should be sooner. If all is well at 3 check up at age 4-5 is appropriate.
