Description:The qualities that the fruit gains from the very high, cool vineyard that forms this superstar are so clear to see here; it is generous and rich but with true grace, balance, and confidence. We bought all that we could of this Gran Reserva immediately upon tasting, particularly as they only make the Prado Enea in the best years (and they didn’t bottle any 2007, 2008, 2012, or 2013!).
97+/100 Points - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate"The expressive, complex and nuanced 2016 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a textbook traditional Rioja in the making. 2016 was a very elegant year, with aging potential, volume and very good acidity and freshness. It's full-bodied but fine-boned, has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.25 grams per liter acidity. It has terrific balance, with all the components in the right proportion to age superbly in bottle. They have also been working on the selection of wood used. This wine matured in French and American oak barrels for three years, and the oak is super integrated. 127,808 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2020. It was an exceptional year with volume and quality."
96/100 Points - Decanter"A classic Gran Reserva with and elegant profile and subtle evolution. It still offers delicious raspberry and red berry fruit, slightly jammy but in the best sense of the word. Tannins are soft and round, and the oak is now perfectly integrated. Quite spicy on the finish, it's still lively, with lots of life ahead. Sourced from fairly high vineyards, at 550m-600m, in three villages in the northwest corner of Rioja Alta. Tempranillo and Garnacha with Mazuelo and Graciano were fermented on oak vats, with 14-16 days of maceration, followed by at least 36 months ageing in American and French oak casks. After light fining, the wine was bottled and remained in the cellar for at least a further 36 months."
