Country: South Africa Region: Stellenbosch Varietal: Shiraz Colour: Red Producer: Post House Vineyards Description:The Post House Merry Widow Shiraz was named after the US special delivery stamp which became known as the Merry Widow through the operetta Merry Widow, composed by Franz Lehar in 1905. British actress, Lily Elsie took up the main role and had a fondness for large-brimmed, heavily be-plumed hats, which became known as Merry Widow hats and resembled the hat on the special delivery stamp. The first and foremost observation made about the wines is often the colour. Above all, these are perhaps some of the darkest, deepest colored wines discovered. This is also a result of a combination of the terroir and vinification process. The cellar only produces in particular a small quantity of wine and assumes a hands-on and conscientious approach at each step. Tasting Note: Dark red wine, with an inkiness picked up on the nose and palate. It has a nose of blackcurrant, chocolate, white pepper, cinnamon, raspberry and a hint of floral petals. Rounded ripe fruit give a long and lingering finish. Food pairing: Grilled steak with Béarnaise sauce or Roast lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic jus

Country: Italy Region: Asti, Piemonte Varietal: 100% Moscato Vintage: 2024 Colour: White Style: Sparkling Producer: Michele ChiarloDescription:Gossamer light, gently sweet and with a playful spritz, this Piedmontese speciality balances fragrant peach and honeyed citrus with a bright, breezy freshness. The lowdown:Moscato d'Asti is one of the most sublime and delicate of all sweet wines, and this is an outstanding example. The name Nivole means clouds, reflecting the ethereal, delicate nature of the wine. Wonderfully aromatic with subtle and complex aromas of elderflower, orange blossom, fresh grape, honeydew melon and citrus fruits lead onto a fresh and delicate palate that is lightly effervescent with a wonderful balance between sweetness and natural acidity. The Producer:Michele Chiarlo is one of Piedmont's great winemakers. His family owns 60 hectares of vineyard in three of the classic growing areas - Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi and have access to a further 50 hectares through long-term relationships with their growers. Michele has insisted on total quality since his first vintage in 1956, an ethos which his sons Stefano and Alberto adopt today. The Chiarlo style is elegant and complex and they make wines that can age for decades but above all reflect their provenance - some of the finest vineyard sites in Piedmont. When to drink:At just 5% ABV, this is light in alcohol and a great match for creamy desserts - panna cotta, lemon posset, or fruit pavlova all shine alongside it.
