PRODUCERThis property was purchased by Marilisa Allegrini in 2006. Marilisa has continued to invest heavily in the estate, and this investment is now evident in the ever-increasing quality of the wines. Situated in the eastern part of Montalcino, this estate covers 22 hectares of which 16 are under vine, and produces wines that are classic in style, but with a bit more weight than would be found to the north of the zone.
VINEYARDSThe grapes for this Rosso di Montalcino came from three hectares of vineyard planted between 1990 and 2000. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level, facing south and south-east, with chalky clay soils. The vines are spur-cordontrained and planted at a density of 7,000 vines per hectare. Yields are on average 49 hectolitres per hectare.
VINIFICATIONThe grapes were hand picked. After careful selection of the bunches, gentle pressing followed and then fermentation took place in concrete tanks, with maceration on the skins lasting around 14-16 days at 28-30°C. The wine was then aged for 12 months in lightly-toasted, second-use French oak barriques (Allier) followed by a month of bottle ageing before release.
TASTING NOTESThe Rosso is bright ruby red in colour. On the nose, it has aromas of fresh berries, Morello cherry and blackberries that are complemented by a hint of vanilla spice. This is a fragrant, intense wine with smooth, finely-balanced tannins and a persistent, aromatic finish.
*** 94 points James Suckling “Plenty of blackberry and rust with tile and stone undertones. Full body, tannic and structured. A big and flavorful red. Better in 2020 when it is a little softer” ***

Description:A true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia.Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.
93 Pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate"The Ornellaia 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia (a proprietary blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) is a generous and darkly toned red blend that has the extra fruit fiber, sweetness and generous plumpness of a warm vintage. The fullness of the fruit is on full display, but in a very relaxed and natural manner. The wine never feels like too much. The tannins are yielding and velvety, and this purebred Tuscan red wraps thickly over the palate. It's poised for near- and medium-term drinking."93 Pts James Suckling"Currants and bark with some cinnamon and flowers. Round and velvety with spice and chocolate as well as walnuts. Long and flavorful. 44% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon, 13% petit verdot, and 13% cabernet franc. Needs two or three years to come around."92 Pts Wine Spectator"This muscular red is saturated with cherry, plum, vanilla and earth flavors. As solid and sinewy as the tannic structure is, the fruit matches it step by step on the long finish."
Tasting Note:Deep and dark with lifted seductive aromas of red fruits a
