Merkur Progress 500 Safety Razor with Antique Brass Knob is the short handle version of Merkur's adjustable double edge razor, finished in bright chrome and fitted with a metal adjustment knob in antique brass, engraved with the Merkur logo. Turning that knob moves the blade gap anywhere between 0.6mm and 1.6mm, so a single razor takes care of both a close daily shave and several days of growth. It is a two-piece razor, with a chrome-plated die-cast zinc head sitting on a chrome-plated brass handle. The closed comb head and short handle keep it compact at 88mm long, while 105g gives it a solid, settled feel in the hand. Fine tuning the gap is what makes this adjustable safety razor such a good long-term choice. Start on a low setting while your technique settles in, then open it up a step at a time to suit your beard and skin. The marked scale means a favourite setting is always easy to find again. How to Use Unscrew the top plate using the brass knob, place a standard double edge blade, then close it and check the blade sits evenly on both sides. Move up the scale a step at a time once you are comfortable, or when shaving more than a day's growth.
