This distinctive Irish malt whiskey is aged for 16 years in a combination of Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks, and then matured for several months in Port wine barrels, a unique maturation which imparts distinct notes of juicy fruits, nuts and spice, as well as a hint of ruby redness. Big robust nose of treacle and sweet spice. Full-bodied palate of honey, caramelised fruits and toasted nuts. Long deep finish, distinct berry and dark chocolate notes.
Stone fruit and citrus notes dominate the nose, continuing onto the palate. Restrained and subtle, flavours of lemon zest and grapefruit have an underlying biscuity note. There is also intensity and weight to the palate, held in check by a seam of crisp acid that keeps it fresh and tight.
