Intense aromas of yellow plum, hay, brioche and bay leaf, with saline undertones. Delicious flavours of kumquat, wild honey and a little flinty smokiness also shine through on the palate. This has a lively acidity with a lengthy, textured finish 95 pts Tim Atkin Intense and unique Cape white blend 36% Roussanne , 25% Semillon, 22% Chenin Blanc, 11% Chardonnay, 6% Clairette Food Pairing: A variety of options here. Try Bouillabaisse, smoky prawns with zesty aioli or a Mediterranean style mezze platter with flatbread and hummus. Cellaring: 2022-2026   STORY BEHIND THIS WINE Winemakers John and Tasha Seccombe have been making a name for themselves on the South African wine scene since they first opened Thorne and Daughters Wines in 2012 on the stunning Western Cape.John and Tasha’s philosophy of old school simplicity with a modern twist results in beautiful wines that speak of their location The “Rocking Horse” Cape White blend is considered their flagship wine. Made with a nod to the Southern Rhone, one look at its strikingly golden appearance and you can picture yourself transported to the sun-drenched Cape of Good Hope. The name is taken from a wooden rocking horse that they made for their daughters out of old oak barrel staves 2020 was an excellent vintage here, marking as it did the end of a long drought on the Cape. The result speaks for itself.

Archetypal expression from the oldest known Shiraz vines in the world Deep crimson in colour, full-bodied and intensely aromatic. Concentrated aromas of dark chocolate, black olives, mocha, vanilla combine with hints of cedar and sweet spices. On the palate, liquorice and espresso mingle against a backbone of dark fruits including black cherries, satsuma plums and cassis. Silky, opulent tannins on show are all rounded off with a lush and lengthy finish. 18.5pts Jancis Robinson  Food Pairing: Lamb shanks, BBQ-styles dishes especially with plum sauces, braised rabbit Cellaring: Now to 2037 STORY BEHIND THIS WINE Drink Langmeil’s signature Freedom 1843 Shiraz and you are drinking a piece of history. The vines that contribute to this Shiraz come from a small 1.5 hectare plot christened “The Freedom Vineyard”. These are known to be amongst the oldest surviving Shiraz wines in the world and where the 1843 on the label comes from. As if that wasn’t enough, the owners of the vineyard (The Lindner Family) have 6 generations of experience in wine and farming to call upon. This is one of the wines that put Barossa on the map of every wine-lovers imagination. Renowned Australia wine critic James Halliday called this “ a wine you should kneel in the presence of”. We’re inclined to agree.
