The history of Pol Roger Champagne
Pol Roger was established in 1849 and remains proudly independent and family-owned to this day. As one of the smaller champagne houses, it owns 87 hectares of vineyards on prime sites in the Vallée d'Epernay and the Côte des Blancs and has 7km of cellars below the streets of Epernay. These cellars are amongst the deepest and coolest cellars in the region - a fact which contributes to the slow maturation of the champagne and the creation of fine, persistent bubbles which are the hallmark of all their champagnes.Pol Roger was born on 24th December 1831 in the village of Aÿ. He initially started trading as a négociant at the age of 17, and by 1849 had founded a new champagne house which created its own cuvées rather than reselling other producers champagnes. Today, the company has grown to around 1.5 million bottles per annum and Pol Roger UK is one of the company's most important markets. It has proved so popular that its champagnes have even been served at the Royal Wedding.
Very good, very reliable non vintage Champagne that was famously the favourite tipple of Winston Churchill hence the naming of its top wine Cuvee Winston Churchill. Medium bodied with good weight of fruit this is a very versatile wine.
To The Palate: This Brut Pol Roger Champagne is a pale golden hue, with a persistent stream of very fine bubbles. On the nose it offers aromas of white flowers, green apples, brioche and a trace of minerality. The palate has notes of stone fruits, nuts and a hint of honey, balancing the freshness of the acidity.
The Pol Roger Brut is blended from 30 base wines from different vintages, and selected from mulitple vintages, with a selection of the three main grape varieties of the region to form this wine - Pinot Noir to add body, depth

The "Goblet" pruning probably goes back to the Greek or Roman period.Soil: pink granite, thin and acidic.ViticultureDensity: 9 000 vines/ha, to check the strength of the varietal.Pruning: Goblet method (Goblet pruning), very short, to control yield. VinificationHarvesting: by hand.Method: traditional for Beaujolais; semi-carbonic maceration, full bunches of grapes.Maceration: 4 to 10 days.Ageing: stainless steel vat.
Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin"Fleurie is certainly worthy of its name! It possesses great charm and delicacy, with its luminous raspberry color, aromas of lilac, violet and gooseberry. Very supple and silky in the mouth. Leaves a beautiful impression of fine aromas. It is the most delicate of the Beaujolais Crus".VintageThe wines are good and homogenous all over the Beaujolais region. The colour is frank and fairly dark and there is a nice fruity spontaneity on the nose, as on the palate. This year we can say that the aromas have a tendency towards red, rather than dark fruits.ServingTemperature: 15°C (57°F).Cellaring: 2 to 6 years.
